Pro JYM Features & Benefits

Let’s start with quality control standards. At this point in time, Stoppani Supplement Science, the maker of the JYM supplement products does not have its product line made in GMP-compliant facilities.

As you may know, supplement fraud has been rampant in the nutritional supplement sector but significant strides have been made in the past 10 to 15 years to eradicate such fraud. One of the ways a customer can determine if a company has a high degree of quality control is by identifying the quality control standards the company adheres to. Many bodybuilding supplement companies like Optimum Nutrition, BSN, Dymatize and more are certifying with NSF for Sport GMP. This is a mark of distinction and validates a high degree of quality control with product creation.

What is entailed in GMP certification? Everything from raw product ingredient purity to bottling, validation of ingredient profile and amounts, packaging, and cleanliness of facility. It even includes employee training and specific manufacturing guidelines. Plus, it’s an ongoing certification and not a one-time certification. Stoppani Supplement Science doesn’t have it — yet. This is a new and small company so it might be on the to do list for the near future, but at the moment, it doesn’t have independent quality control standards in place.

Does that mean automatically that the Stoppani Supplement Science JYM series of products are lackluster as they don’t have GMP certification. No, not at all. To the contrary, their Pre JYM and Post JYM products sell very well and have been met with virtually immediate acclimation by the marketplace. That is, of course, a very positive sign. But, they don’t have this GMP cert yet.

Let’s now talk about the core competencies that this product claims to fulfill. The USP (unique sales proposition) or tagline for this product is “Blended protein supplement for maximum effectiveness.” It is also promoted as “the anabolic protein powder created and used by Dr. Jim Stoppani.” JYM Suррlеmеnt Sсіеnсе says they “combine  rеаl science with best-in-class іngrеdіеntѕ аnd рrесіѕе dоѕеѕ tо dеlіvеr unreal results.” Furthermore, the product is proclaimed to be an “еxсluѕіvе рrоtеіn blеnd dеѕіgnеd tо hеlр you buіld muscle, recover fаѕtеr, аnd trаіn ѕtrоngеr.” (Stoppani is the author of “Jim Stoppani’s Encyclopedia of Muscle & Strength” and is a well-regarded expert in the areas of bodybuilding nutrition and strength training.)

Protein is the most foundational nutritional element needed for muscle growth and repair. It is the cornerstone of any good athletic supplement regime. What makes this product different, Stoppani Supplement Science says, is its unique blend of whey protein isolate, milk protein isolate, micellar casein and egg albumen (egg protein). Most whey protein supplements only have two at most, usually whey protein and milk protein isolate.

Micellar casein’s purpose is to provide a slow-digesting protein for post-workout recovery. Casein protein is so important and popular that it is its own protein supplement category as it is so separately in the marketplace. So, in essence, the presence of whey protein isolate, milk protein isolate, micellar casein and egg albumin provides, pre-, intra- and post-workout nutritional support so your body can recover and have the necessary nutrients it needs for muscle growth.

Stoppani Supplement Science says that their protein powder ProJYM is “Made With The Highest Quality Whey, Casein, And Egg Proteins” but that is not the end of the nutrition aspect. Stoppani says that a “blend is best” meaning the combination of the casein, egg protein, milk protein and whey protein.

One notable omission in this protein powder is that there are not other bodybuilding-specific nutrients added like taurine or creatine. Stoppani says this is deliberate as they do not do what other supplement manufacturers do — nitrogen spike the powder.

This is a new paradigm for protein powder creation and dovetails with the fraud I talked about earlier that still exists in the supplement industry. Stoppani says their product has 24 grams of protein in the ProJYM formula. Period. And Stoppani asserts that the precise combination of the four proteins is in a highly desirable and digestible mix. Here are the core nutritional facts regarding this protein:

• Potassium — 3 grams

What about the other ingredients? It does have Acesulfame Potassium, Sucralose, Lecithin, and Silicon Dioxide. While some like Jim Stoppani, the formulator of the JYM series, suggest the inclusion of these ingredients are essential inert, there are also other studies that contradict that — most notably I mean the inclusion of artificial sweeteners like acesulfame potassium (200x sweeter than table sugar or sucrose) and sucralose, which is more commonly known as Splenda.

What about flavors? There are four flavors currently for this protein powder including chocolate cookie crunch, cookies & cream, s’mores and vanilla.

Side Effects

There are no reported side effects of using this whey protein powder. It is perfectly safe to use. However, if you have a peanut or wheat allergy you might want to talk to your doctor first as these protein powders are made in facilities that processes wheat and peanuts. This product also contains milk and soy byproducts.

This product was only released into the marketplace in the spring of 2014. Its young age notwithstanding, it has very quickly gained a loyal customer base. This is another great product by Jym Stoppani ! The vanilla tastes amazing ! And it is by far the smoothest mixture I’ve ever had, and I’ve tried ALL the others at one point or another. The product is one of the best protein powder on the market. This gives you a good blend of all the needed protein needed for muscle growth and development. This protein is easy to mix and taste great with 2% milk. I’ve tried water but it doesn’t taste the same as milk. The only worries I have with the product is the added ingredient sucralose. Sucralose is known to cause gastrointestinal problems, seizures, dizziness, migraines, blurred vision, allergic reactions, blood sugar increases, weight gain, and enlarged kidneys. Protein powders such as whey Optimum nutrition protein doesn’t contain sucralose. Could someone shed some light on the matter?

The cookies & cream Pro Jym is one of the best tasting proteins out there. I’ve previously used other top name brand proteins, but for the price, quality, and taste I will be sticking with Pro Jym. I look forward to drinking it after my workout like it’s my reward for training hard. An excellent product!

As of December 21st, 2023, you can buy it here at bodybuilding.com. So, what’s the verdict? This is a very good protein powder. It has four types of protein in a unique blend, and the protein amount (24g) is the actual amount of usable, highly digestible and usable protein. I am dismayed, though, at Stoppani’s lack of product guarantee. As mentioned, there is no mention of a guarantee on their website. Also, this product was not made in certified GMP facilities. I also don’t like the inclusion of sweeteners like acelsufame potassium and sucralose. (The Optimum Nutrition powders don’t have that.) Still, it is still a very good quality protein powder, though, and it is is selling very well. Undoubtedly, a part of that is due to the success they’ve achieved with the Pre JYM and Post JYM products. I give this a 4.00 out of 5.00.
