Welcome to this review of the MRM Whey Protein Powder product. The MRM line of products is not as heralded as the Optimum Nutrition of the MusclePharm product lines, but it is a fairly popular product among its loyal customer base.
Based in Oceanside, California, USA, MRM was founded in 1996 by company founder and president Mark Olson, this supplement company offers a broad range of supplement products that it says are formulated using rigid clinical research and “direct sourcing” of raw ingredients.
Without further preamble, let’s now get into this review and offering by MRM and their whey powder protein supplement.
MRM Whey Protein Powder Product Features & Nutrition Facts
One of the things I first look for when researching a company and a product is to see if they have cGMP compliance or NSF Certified for Sport registered GMP certification. They do not. What is “cGMP” or “GMP” certification. The term “GMP” or “cGMP” means “current Good Manufacturing Practices” with the word “current” added sometimes. They are the same thing.
Pharmaceutical cGMP compliance is is the highest standard possible, and virtually all supplement companies don’t have this. Most seek NSF Certified for Sport certification. These NSF for sport GMP registration standards are the standards published by the U.S. FDA in June 2007. Sports & fitness nutritional supplements, vitamins, healthcare supplements improve quality of life, but to do this there needs to be quality of product raw materials. MRM seems serious about this.
Two supplement companies that have pharmaceutical cGMP compliance are Xtend-Life and Douglas Laboratories. Those preceding links lead to category pages on this site. (For more info from Xtend-Life itself regarding their products, go here.)
MRM does have a six-man product development team. MRM also proudly asserts that their products are made with rigorous standards, and judging from the acceptance of their products in the marketplace, they do produce results in their customers. However, their in-house manufacturing facilities in Oceanside, California do not have NSF Certified for Sport certification.
It is highly desirable and one hopes they will seek this at some point in the future.
Let’s now talk about its nutritional information specifics.
What about flavors? The MRM All Natural Whey Protein product comes in only two flavors, dutch chocolate and rich vanilla.
It is also available in one and two pound canister options as well as in a 10-packet option.
MRM says their whey protein powder products are with ultrafiltered, low temperature processed whey protein concentrate from milk and “crossflow microfiltered whey protein isolate,” which also comes from milk. They call it “Nat-Pro optimizer.”
IT also comes with salt, carrageenan and stevia. It has no egg, peanut, tree nut, shellfish, MSG, wheat, gluten, yeast, and no aspartame or acesulfame K or added sugars. It does contain milk and soy byproducts as well.
It also has an impressive amino acid profile as well as other nutrients specific to those seeking to gain muscle, specifically beta alanine, L-glutamine (sometimes spelled as L Glutamine) and arginine.
Each serving contains 85 calories, 9 from fat and 18 grams of protein, which MRM claims is highly bio-available.
One “byproduct” that is included that has drawn some attention is carragenan. It is a vegetarian alternative to gelatin, which is made from the collagen of animal byproducts. Carrageenan comes from seaweek and is widely used in the food industry for its natural thickening properties. It’s often included in whey protein powders due to its ability to bind to food proteins.
Another interesting ingredient is luo han guo, which is a plant cultivated for its sweetening properties. Its extract is 300 times sweeter than sugar and has been added one can assume for flavor.
How Much Does MRM Whey Protein Powder Cost?
In researching this product’s cost over the Internet as well as with brick-and-mortar supplement stores, it has the following price ranges.
- 1 pound canister, 18 servings — $16.99 to $29.99
- 2.03-pound canister, 36 servings — $23.49 to $46.43
The best prices I’ve been able to find are at Amazon, which you can see here.
Does The MRM Whey Protein Powder Come With a Guarantee?
Yes, it does, but MRM, like most supplement or sports & fitness or health care companies, defers to the guarantee of the online retailer or the brick-and-mortar retailer’s product guarantee. One of the reasons why I endorse Amazon is due to their guarantee, which you can read here, but they are also renowned for their customer service having won for nine straight years the best customer service award.

Questionable Ingredients IMHO

This is a good tasting protein that is cold processed as to not damage ingredients but then the makers add carageenan to the mix. Let me say that I am not a scientist, researcher or in the medical field, but in my humble opinion Carageenan is a questionable ingredient due to its POSSIBLE link to gastrointestinal problems and maybe even Cancer. I emailed MRM to see what they said about the ingredient and I received a very timely response to which they basically said Carageenan was safe because they use food grade carageenan and not the degraded Carageenan, which is linked to GI problems/Cancer and that their food grade carageenan has been thoroughly studied and proven to be safe. I must give them credit for EXCELLENT customer service and a very timely response – without this ingredient I think they have a great product.
Are there any customer complaints? Like all supplement products, flavor is one that is very subjective. Some think it tastes great, some don’t. That is typical of most whey protein supplement powders.
Overall, it appears to be a well liked product.
Where Can I Buy This MRM Whey Protein Powder?
You can buy it here for a very good price, but you are free to choose. Is this the best whey protein powder on the market today? That is, of course, debatable, but it is a very good whey protein product made by a company that seeks to produce a good, quality product for its customers. Overall, this is a good bodybuilding and sports fitness supplement.
It is not as well known as its competitors, but it could be a sleeper in the highly competitive whey protein powder space. I hope that this review of the MRM Whey Protein Powder product has been helpful to you.
