Review of Vita JYM Multivitamin

What is the best multivitamin for men and women? Is the Vita JYM the best or among the best? How does it compare to others on the market? This review will cover all of that and more.

Rating: 2.5 (out of 5)

Welcome to this review of the Stoppani Supplement Science Vita JYM multivitamin product. Finding the best multivitamin for bodybuilders or for non-bodybuilders has been a challenge for many years. Both men and women are seeking the top multivitamin product for their supplement regime but it’s difficult to tell which one is the best. Well, that is what this review is all about — answering that question with honest, unbiased information — there is not one affiliate link in the content. (You can read more such product reviews here within this SupplementReviewPal.com site.)

All advertisers tout theirs as “special” or “optimal” but it’s difficult to know. Stoppani Supplement Science (SSS) has recently released their offering into the marketplace. Is it good? Is it worthy of being considered the best multivitamin for men and/or women? That’s what this review is all about.

Let’s now delve into this product.

Vita JYM Features & Benefits

SSS has as their USP (unique sales proposition) or tagline the following, “Precisely Engineered To Suрроrt Pеrfоrmаnсе.” They also say that this multivitamin,  “Provides The Mісrоnutrіеntѕ Athlеtеѕ Nееd In Thе Exасt Dоѕеѕ Thеу Need Thеm.” Moreover, SSS emphasizes that this product was designed from the ground up by Dr. Jim Stoppani the CEO and founder of SSS. (Stoppani is the author of “Jim Stoppani’s Encyclopedia of Muscle & Strength” and is a well-regarded expert in the areas of bodybuilding nutrition and strength training.) Continuing, do these advertising claims hold up? Yes and no.

In order to answer that question, let’s first talk about quality. None of the SSS Jym product line are made in GMP-compliant facilities. As you may know, supplement fraud has been utterly rampant in the supplement industry. (Read here as to what the U.S. FDA has to say on it.)

GMP (good manufacturing practices) certification or an FDA-registered facility is a real sign of quality. As SSS doesn’t have this is that a death knell for the product and the entire JYM line? No, multivitaminsof course not. At this point in time, SSS is a real small operation albeit overseen by a genuine PhD scientist who himself is a bodybuilder. Gaining GMP and/or FDA-registeration certification may be on the to do list but for now, it is non-existence. This type of certification comprises everything from purity of raw nutrients to manufacturing processes to employee training — and it’s not a one-time certification, it’s an ongoing one.

Let’s move on to the “core competencies” of this product. SSS says the VitaJYM multivitamin has each of the 25 nutrients it needs for maximum muscle synthesis and performance. Thus there are some notable omissions as to the nutrient profile. This is what Stoppani says at the SSS website that this product has, “The 25 mоѕt сrіtісаl mісrоnutrіеntѕ thаt hаrd-trаіnіng athletes need.” In addition, Stoppani says there are “no mіnеrаlѕ thаt іnhіbіt аmіnо асіd uрtаkе, thе аbѕоrрtіоn оf other сrіtісаl mіnеrаlѕ, оr the utіlіzаtіоn оf important vitamins.” Here are the core nutrients in the nutritional profile, according to Stoppani:

  • B-соmрlеx 100: Vita JYM іѕ lіkе tаkіng a multі аnd a B-complex in оnе!
  • 10,000 IU (international units) vіtаmіn A аѕ 100% beta-carotene
  • 400 IU vіtаmіn E
  • 120 mcg Vіtаmіn K2 (as MK-7 and MK-4)
  • 200 mcg chromium picolinate (this is a little disturbing)
  • 5 mg BіоPеrіnе® tо enhance absorption

The vitamins and minerals missing that are notable are: zinc, magnesium, calcium, phosphorous, the B vitamin complex and vitamin D. The omission of these is deliberate as they block absorption of other nutrients. Or, as with the B vitamin complex, it is not included as it needs to have higher amounts than as usually included in a formula. This is what Stoppani writes, “Thе B vitamins аrе аnоthеr рrоblеm. You wіll see them listed оn most multіvіtаmіnѕ, but the dоѕеѕ аrе оftеn far tоо small tо оffеr hаrd-trаіnіng іndіvіduаlѕ аnу benefit. Anу athlete or іndіvіduаl whо trаіnѕ hаrd ѕhоuld bе gеttіng 100 mg of mоѕt оf thе B vitamins, еxсludіng the ones taken іn mсg dоѕеѕ.” That seems like an odd reason to exclude them.

One dirty secret of almost all multivitamin formulas is that they are not assimilated very well. A simple test is to note the color of your urine after a reasonable amount of time has passed after ingesting it. If it is darker, that is a clear indication most of the nutrients are not being assimilated.

The reason this happens in part is due to the inability of the body to assimilate the nutrients or the nutrients from the vitamin tablets are destroyed in the stomach before they can pass into the upper intestine or duodenum.

Pharmaceutical drugs have a special coating on them, like enteric coating. This prevents the nutrients from being released until they pass the stomach. VitaJYM has a “film coat” that is comprised of hypromellose, polyethylene glycol and gydroxypropyl cellulose. This is inferior, alpha-lipoic-acidthough, to enteric coating that is made up of purified water, ethylcellulose, Ammonium hydroxide, Medium chain triglycerides, oleic acid, Sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, talc and polydextrose.

Hypromellose is basically glue! It’s mindboggling why he would use this. It is semi-synthetic and glue-like. According to Shane Ellison, an organic chemist, and author of Over The Counter Natural Cures, a book you should look into, companies use it to tap into the anti-gelatin capsule craze. It should not be ingested!

The Problem with Chromium Picolinate

Chromium picolinate continues to undeservedly get attention from the obese who hope to lose fat with a single pill, which is ludicrous. Losing weight takes discipline and work, not a magic pill. Let me quote from Shane Ellison from his site directly as he’s an organic chemist and I’m not:

“Chromium is a trace metal that works in our body to activate insulin. Why is this important? Because if it’s not there, insulin would be unable to escort toxic glucose out of the bloodstream and into the muscle cells for energy metabolism.

Recognizing this, supplement hucksters erroneously promote it as an insulin lowering agent. It’s theorized that by potentiating the fat storing hormone insulin with chromium picolinate, that our body would produce less of it. And less insulin means less fat storage. This theory has not held up to the rigors of scientific method and has been a disappointment for millions.

Looking closer at clinical trials, Harvard University found that supplementing with the co-factor failed to elicit any significant weight loss – a meager 2 to 4 lbs over 6 to 14 weeks, which could be achieved in 7 days among the obese with proper exercise. The big fat failure of chromium picolinate to induce weight loss probably results from the fact that the obese are not deficient in it.

Over the Counter Natural Cures, Expanded Edition: Take Charge of Your Health in 30 Days with 10 Lifesaving Supplements for under $10 by [Ellison, Shane]Biologically active chromium is readily available in common foods such as whole-grains, processed meats, coffee, nuts, and even wine and beer. And because it is a ‘co-factor,’ the body requires very little of it to properly utilize insulin. Thus, each and every one of these sources can provide the required amount.”

Ellison is the author of the best-seller, Over the Counter Natural Cures.

Side Effects

There are no reported side effects. Actually, to the contrary. Some multivitamins cause stomach upset — this one doesn’t. At least according to real-world customers. The nutrients included in the JYM multivitamin are needed by the body so there is no negative physiological reaction.

Price

This multivitamin sells for $20.76 as of today, December 21st, 2023. That is essentially a month’s supply as the recommended daily dose is two per day.

Guarantee

There is no mention of a product guarantee on the Stoppani Supplement Science website. At this time, they do not have one and that is not a positive sign. Currently, they only sell their various JYM products at bodybuilding.com. Fortunately, bodybuilding.com has a good product guarantee.  Eѕѕеntіаllу, іtеmѕ саn bе rеturnеd in ѕіx mоnthѕ frоm the асtuаl dаtе оf оrdеr, nоt the dеlіvеrу dаtе. Customer Reviews of Vita JYM

The Stoppani Supplement Science JYM product line sells very well in the marketplace. They also rate highly as well. As of this writing, it has a rating of 9.6 out of a possible 10.00 out of 54 reviews (it doesn’t have that many Stoppani Supplement Science Vita Jymreviews yet as the product was just released in late Spring of 2014). Out of those 54, 51 are verified buyers and those 51 give it a 9.7 out of 10.00. Here are a few reviews for your perusal:

JayR87If you want to exercise, if you have an intense fitness workout regime, you need good supplements today. That’s just the way it is. I really like the JYM product line. That’s why I’ve tried this as it’s 1) affordable and 2) I trust Stoppani. That said, when I took it, and this was true for the whole bottle, my urine was a lot darker. That is a sure tell-tale sign that not all of the nutrients are being assimilated. I like the product overall, though.

Where Can I Buy Vita JYM?

Stoppani Supplement Science Vita JymAs of today, December 21st, 2023, you can buy only buy this product at bodybuilding.com here, but you are free to choose. So, what is the verdict on this product?

I cannot recommend people use this as it has chromium picolinate in it and hypromellose. Hypromellose is sold or framed as the vegetarian’s alternative to gelatin for capsules. But here’s the kicker — it’s basically glue! Seriously. You don’t want that in your body.

When compared to Xtend-Life’s Total Balance product, this multivitamin is not in the same league.

I have a great respect for the JYM products, especially the Pre- and Post-JYM products, but this product while quality is not stellar. It is certainly worthy of consideration — especially for bodybuilders but if you want a full, comprehensive multivitamin, look elsewhere. I give it a 2.5 out of 5.00.

I hope this review of the Vita Jym multivitamin product has been useful to you.
